What You Need To Consider Before You Buy a TV Stand

Author: John Aske

TV Stands are designed for supporting and displaying home entertainment systems. This can include televisions, DVD players, set top boxes (cable, Freeview or satellite) and video game consoles. Many leading brand names such as Sony, Panasonic and Phillips manufacture TV stands designed to support a range of different home entertainment systems including LCD, LED and plasma televisions.

There are various different types of TV stand available. These include corner cabinets, floor stands, pedestal stands and also cantilever stands. TV stands can be made from wood, glass, plastic and various different metals. You will need to think about how much space is available and what equipment you want to display when choosing a TV stand for your home.

Corner Cabinets

If you have a small room them you will need to maximise the space available to display your television and associated equipment. Corner cabinets are useful as they will fit back into an awkward corner and make the best use of space. You will be able to display your television without it imposing on the rest of the room.

Cabinets

TV cabinets are typically square (unless a corner design) and are available in many different designs. You should be able to find a cabinet that matches the material your main room furniture is made from. This will provide you with a discreet way to display your television that blends in with your room. TV cabinets hide away all of the wires and additional equipment associated with home entertainment systems and create a very neat finish.

Cantilever Stands

Cantilever stands have been designed to display the new lightweight flat screen televisions now available. These enable you to hang your television up on the wall, which negates the need for bulky TV stands taking up floor space in your room. This also allows you to fit the television at any height in your room. These stands can also be moved to different angles which is ideal if your room is an awkward shape. You will be able to angle the television to suit any furniture arrangement.

Floor Stands

These free standing TV display stands are very popular and are basically an open cabinet design. Shelves are provided for electronic equipment such as DVD players and speakers and central and side columns support the weight of the television which will sit on the top shelf. These stands offer an easy and affordable way to display your television equipment. The open designs also provide plenty of ventilation to prevent equipment for overheating.

Pedestal Stands

These are a type of floor stand that offer different height adjustment settings. This allows you more flexibility when it comes to setting the correct height to display your television. Pedestal stands are developed mainly for lightweight flat screen televisions.

Desktop Stands

These practical stands are designed to support smaller LCD, LED, plasma and CRT televisions. They can be placed on top of existing cabinet furniture or desks and are an affordable choice. Desktop stands are easy to move around and are commonly used in home and work offices to display small televisions.
